Photographing Newborns

Hello Everyone,

Compliments of the season!!!

I had the privilege of learning under an amazing newborn and baby photographer (Shannon Leigh) in November and it was a wonderful experience.

Shannon told me it won’t be easy especially for me who doesn’t have a child (lol) and all but, I would get the hang of it with time. Practice practice practice she said which I totally agreed on.

So I decided to request for newborn models and it turned out great!!!

I really did try summarizing my experience with both babies. Haha… enjoy!

BABY ZEMIRAH was my first model. Seeing her melted my heart. She is so adorable and cute, and she slept peacefully as she was brought in to the studio.

Although, before she came in, I was nervous, excited and nervous…lol. Didn’t know what to expect, I was thinking, how would I handle the baby if she cries, pees or poos. I see these things and have actually handled them for people I am close to but, this is different because I don’t know this family at all, I don’t know their preferences, and for most first time mums, they can be jittery and all. i.e.  don’t touch her there and all that. Hence being nervous, excited and nervous.

Felt a lot better when my friend arrived the studio to assist me, after all she is a mum so she has a better idea on handling babies. For my first time, I didn’t do bad at all. But as a photographer I definitely needed another pair of eyes to focus solely on the baby so I can focus on creating newborn art. Also got assistance from my brother handling the technical parts like the lighting so it made a lot of things less tensed for me; grateful to them. Most importantly, grateful to the parents because mehn they were chilled. They seemed to enjoy the experience, i sure hope they did. Mum definitely assisted too…lol and dad, he did behind the scenes footage. hahaha. lucky me. Best part was when baby Zemirah herself thanked me by peeing on the blanket :); we continued shooting and gave me all she got.

BABY INIOLUWA was my second model. He gave me a different experience. From what his mother told me which was, once he eats, he passes out. Writing this, I am laughing because that totally didn’t happen. It was the complete opposite. He refused to sleep, cried on and off, was very active and kept giving us the look of what are you doing to me? And of course, he blessed Jolayemi and I with his pee, but blessed me twice {guess I was just lucky 🙂 }; he also pooed and had to clean up. What a wonderful experience, don’t you think? To be frank, at some point he actually tried sleeping but I think the movements were just in his way of having that satisfying sleep. All in all, he was adorable and gave us a lot of action posses. You will see from his photos below that it is totally different from Zemirah.

This is to show that babies have a mind of their own and you have no choice but to work with them and get the best out of it. I definitely enjoy doing so because i know the outcome is going to be different.

So from now on, we are officially able to take newborns as well as babies, but emphasis on newborns at the studio or at home if possible. Therefore, kindly have us in mind if you are interested or know anyone who is.

Thank you!!!

And enjoy the rest of the holiday

Whoop whoop!!!
